Dr Jordi Canals
A transversal ecosystem
+

It’s a difficult question, because of the diversity of interesting sectors in Barcelona. Barcelona is not the most prosperous city in Europe; it’s not the most dynamic city in terms of investment either, but what is interesting about Barcelona is that it has a diverse, heterogeneous combination of successful factors. If I had to highlight one sector it would be activities around everything to do with healthcare. Healthcare involving IT, digital, biotech, hospitals, university networks, the pharma companies, the biotech companies, and also nutrition and food. We have the ideal combination and transversal ecosystem for investment to thrive in any of these areas related to health.

Ricard Garriga
A space for creative new ideas
+

What makes the Barcelona startup scene unique is that rather than being known for a particular company or industry, its true value is the ecosystem as a whole. With an unparalleled dedication to quality of life, residents of Barcelona are given the space to come up with creative new ideas that will have a global impact. This is reinforced by the commitment of institutional stakeholders to make Barcelona a hub for innovation. The proof is success stories like Barcelona-based Kanotx and their recent $11 Million fundraising round. And this is just the beginning.

Maria Reig
The sharing economy
+

Businesses that are part of the sharing economy have a bright future and some such as bicycle rental by the hour, are working very well here. Barcelona is proving to be a good place for entrepreneurs in this sector to find funding, at least initially. The main challenge now is to educate consumers and win their trust. I also think that for a good business idea to be successful in the sharing economy being the first on the market is key. In Barcelona this is certainly a very interesting growth sector as there is still a lot to be done.
